Jaycie’s Bunny Hoppin’ News: THE CUMBERLAND GAP

At the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park visitor’s center we did the Jr. Ranger booklets and earned our badges.

We then walked a nature hike. It was the very trail that Daniel Boone and the Native American Indians walked. [At different times of course!] They then fought over the land! I don’t know why we had such a big problem with the Indians?! Well, probably because we were selfish and mean and wanted to take their land from them. When we reached the top, we were in 3 states at once! It was so cool! I made a video of our hike and posted it on YouTube! Here’s the video and link: https://youtu.be/Xljc4XsqSks
We then saw some orange mushrooms at the place where we ate lunch.

We then went on another hike to an overlook.

There we listened to a bat talk by a Park Ranger. We learned that bats aren’t blind and only 1% of the population has rabies. A bat is most likely to be sick if it is flying in the daylight. Bats can eat over 1,000 insects in 1 hour! Sadly, bats are dying from a disease called White Nose Syndrome. It is a fungi that grows on their nose and wakes them up from hibernation.
I also discovered that I love making videos like the one I mentioned and I will be making more videos of our adventures! If you want, you can subscribe to "The 4Js" YouTube channel. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/LvIUqaLoIis
Jett’s Wild Flight: THE CUMBERLAND GAP
By: Jett Lillie, 10/5/22
The three state gap, known as the Cumberland Gap is a big and famous place know for the pioneers who traveled through it to the Kentucky “Promise Land.” We learned that in the park video we watched. At the visitor’s center we completed our booklets and earned our 50th Junior Ranger badge!

We did a hike to the Cumberland Gap, some forts and a lookout.

At the lookout, we learned about bats with a Park Ranger. We did another hike to a tri-state peak where I was in three states at once!

It was AWESOME! I felt the POWER!
