Jett’s Wild Flight: Historic Savannah

By: Jett Lillie, 11/3/22

We arrived at Savannah and took a carriage ride into historic downtown. Our horse’s name was Bella.

After, we went to go shop and later to each lunch. I had fish (yum!) and my sister had fries and a Mango Peach smoothie. We shopped some more and bought some Christmas presents (some even for each other!)

We then found this big hotel lobby place with skeletons, fossils, and huge geodes.

Bear Skeleton:

We also went inside the John the Baptist Cathedral. It was so big!

I picked out my favorite seat:

We then bought some yummy macaroons.

I re-enacted the Forrest Gump bus stop scene at Chippewa Square where the movie scene was shot, only I had the box of macaroons instead of chocolates. No bench though, they had to move it to a museum because people were taking chunks out of it. (sad!)

We didn’t do a ghost tour but we did see Forrest Gump's ghost walking the street!

Jaycie’s Bunny Hoppin’ News: Jekyll Island

By: Jaycie Lillie, 11/4/22

We plugged in the GPS and headed toward Jekyll Island. [Emphasize plugged and headed for dramatic effect.] [Possible Jekyll Island, too, if you make it sound good.] Everything was going well until [dun-dun-dun!] our GPS led us to a neighborhood that dead ends! We were wanting the BEACH! We stopped at this National Park Monument. It was called [dun-dun-dun] Fort Frederica National Monument. So we checked it out.

NOTICE: We were dressed for the beach. I had sweatpants with a swim shirt! Daddy thought we should stay for the morning and do the Junior Ranger Program. [I really wanted to go to the beach before all the good shells were gone!] But, we walked around and completed the Junior Ranger program.

Turns out they had 2 more Junior Ranger programs, too. So they gave us those booklets to complete AND the badges and Master patch on the honor system. [Yay!]

Then we asked the park ranger how to get to Jekyll Island State Park. [Next sentence said bluntly and with frustration…] WE WERE ON THE WRONG ISLAND! We were on St. Simon’s Island instead of Jekyll Island. One hour later we found our way to Jekyll Island. We found it!

Now, [drum roll please] Imagine a beautiful beach… clear water, fine sand, seashells, and so many pieces of driftwood. That’s how I imagined Driftwood Beach. But instead the driftwood was huge trees! [emphasize trees] They were bare like driftwood… worn and weathered. Sadly, we couldn’t break-off or bring any home. [boo]

It looks like I have wings!

Too many people were trying to take pictures that we couldn’t play on the beach. So, we took some pictures and then moved on to Saint Andrew’s Beach. [Ooooooh] [Aaaawwww] Barely anyone was at that beach! We were walking the sand bar when the tide started coming in and it started to disappear! [AH!] We quickly crossed back over the murky water! [Dun-dun-dun]

We found 2 hermit crabs!

And lots of sand dollars, too! [YAAAY!]

We put the ones that were still alive back in the water so they wouldn’t dry out.

We did find some driftwood pieces on that beach that we took. [It didn’t say anything about not taking anything from this beach.]

We then went home. I washed shells with Jett while mommy and daddy went to the Grocery store. We were singing Christmas songs the whole time! [Fa la la la la, la la, la, LA!] [It’s early, so don’t worry if you haven’t started singing them yet.] [We still have Halloween decorations up!]

This is a fact...
